  • The expansion of education in Ethiopia in recent years is widely acknowledged, but may people complain that there is a very high drop out of schools and the quality is poor. Can you please comment on the outcomes?

  • The government prepares textbooks.  After the textbooks are distributed for use, the public and other stakeholders evaluate (informally) the quality of the textbooks.  Then, the government makes some attempts to revise them.  I believe you can see the conflict of interest here.  Do you believe that the Ministry and the states’ education bureaus continue preparing textbooks? If yes, why?  If not, what are you personally doing to initiate the transfer of this responsibility to the private sector?

  • a. What is the core responsibilities of you department, now many employees working directly or   indirectly under the department? b.   What is the number of students per class to date?  In high schools and so on? c.   Is there a plan (tangible plan) to get rid of this mockery and joke of  SHIFT schooling?  If yes, what are the plans? d.   Each states can manage and run their own educational policies, is that right? e.   Does Ministry of Education, co-work with any other overseas education centers or Science and Technology centers, to catch up with fast changing world?
