The Ministry of Education conducted six month performance evaluation of the education and training sector for the 2009 Ethiopian fiscal year at Dessie, Amhara state.The evaluation, organized under the theme, “building education and technology development army for quality education, peace and democracy,” reviewed the last six month activities and results of the general education, higher education and technical and vocational education and training sub-sectors.
With the objective of strengthening the relationship between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Government of UK in the field of education, Dr Tilaye Gete, FDRE’s State Minister for General Education, met with James Wharton, UK Government’s Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for International Development, in London.
Education and Training Sector carrying out its Mission of Producing Competent and Problem Solving Work force
The 26th Annual Education and Training Sector Conference was conducted in Semera, Afar Regional State under the theme “building education and technology development army for quality education, peace and development.’’
Two main goals were identified under ESDP IV. The first was to improve access to quality primary education in order to make sure that all children, youth and adults acquire the competencies, skills and values that enable them to participate fully in the development of Ethiopia. The other was to sustain equitable access to quality secondary education services as the basis and bridge to the demand of the economy for middle- and higher-level human resources. Each sub-sector had further priorities and targets in ESDP IV; progress against these during the ESDP IV period is reviewed here.
Education Sector Development Program V The introduction of higher education in Ethiopia began in the mid-1960s. It is only in that past fifteen years, however, due to the government’s and development partners’ commitment to prioritising the sub-sector, that access to higher education has opened to the wider population.
